The Vanoise National Park is located between two main alpine valleys : the Haute Tarentaise and the Haute Maurienne and their meeting spot is the Iseran pass which is the highest paved pass in Europe (2764m). The highest summits of this National Park surrounding Tignes are :
Grande-Casse 3855m,
Mont Pourri 3779m,
Grande Motte 3656m.
The Gouille de Salins, well known in Tignes, is a resurgence with a lagoon like pond. The old celtic word gouell is the root of this french name. This word describes calm water.
Many sports can be played during summer time in Tignes. Enjoy for skiing on Grande Motte glacier from late June until the first week of August. This a great experience to ski in the morning and to play tennis in the evening.
The ski lifts are also opened to pedestrians and moutain bikers. It's free. And you can explore one of the largest bike-park on Tignes and Val d'Isère.
Tignes is a ski resort divided into several villages with an altitude ranging from 5085ft for Tignes Brévières to 7050 ft for Tignes Val Claret. Tignes is located in a high valley with an old glacier lake surrounded by high mountains. The ski area is one of the most famous of the Alps is the Espace Killy which is shared with Val d'Isère resort. Tignes got, in 2014, an award for Most Improved Resort in the Where to Ski and Snowboard Anniversary Alpine Awards. This area includes two cable cars, 3 lifts, 5 gondolas, 45 chair lifts, 41 ski lifts.
